The Days The World Stood On Fire
The ignorance and deceit that is fueling the suffering of our Climate.
It comes with no satisfaction on how vital the Climate Crisis is to ourselves, the environment and safety of humanity. With continuous scorches of heat waves, inhabitable droughts, poisonous toxins exposed to the atmosphere, and fossil fuel explosions to just to name a few are key visual examples of the rise of the collapse of Planet Earth.
Take the tweet above for example, it is not a CGI trailer for a Pacific Rim remake or some Hollywood stunt magic. It is reality. An underwater gas line burst in the ocean waters around the Gulf coast and caught fire, including the water itself. Putting surrounding sea life in danger. Sadly, The Gulf Coast for decades has experienced frequent occurrences of environmental devastation like this and it’s just more painful reminders of the horrific scenes of the Climate crisis.
In 2010, a small tanker operated by BP’s Macondo Project, cracked and spilled untreated oil in the ocean causing one the worst disasters of the year. The estimated reports of 4.9 Billion barrels of Crude Oil (210 Million Gallons) was leaked and exposed to nearby sea life and neighboring cities on the Gulf coast and did so for the next two straight years. After endless investigations by Environmental groups and countless cover ups by BP, the US supreme court charged the company with 11 criminal acts of manslaughter, two misdemeanors, lying to congress and violation of business ethics and practices in the sum fee of $4.5 Billion. To which exceed to $65 Billion total of criminal charges, clean up, repairs and damages which was seen as the largest corporate malpractice settlements in US history.
This is only a small point to a laundry list of disasters of environmental neglect that corporations endure and lawmakers deflect to undermine the realistic damage this is and the impact it will have for all of life on Earth.
Take to account just recently in a small inland town of Lytton, British Columbia were temperatures for days surpassed 120°F (or roughly 50°C) before the humidex. The town destroyed from an intense wildfire blaze due to the abnormal heat and severe drought. Rescue crews reported saying the town went up in flames in a matter of minutes for the extreme dry conditions. Alongside a result of over 500 people of British Columbia dying from heat exhaustion, stories like this are too deadly to ignore.
The Environment has been a growing concern spanning generations and brought to center attention in the 70s with the introduction to “Earth Day” and has also been disturbingly downplayed by tycoon lobbyists and global investors who seek to preserve their capital assets of extracting resources and manipulating nature for their own profiteering benefits. They don’t see the destruction unfolding around them when their showered with greed and arrogance. However, it’s eco-criminals like these that fail to see how much it costs them and the terror it will impact them. Companies like BP have spent fortunes in clean ups and apologizes for environmental disasters ignoring the effective transition to more a reliable source. With newer innovations, business start ups and eco-friendly economic possibilities, it’s just plain stupid to push it away.
Even for those who still reject the science of Climate Change or even those who are in the money hungry polluters club themselves, you can’t hide the fact that green technology and renewable energy is a booming industry that benefits communities in a variety of ways including: Energy Independence, Infrastructure Upgrades, Job Creation and Emission decreases. Shouldn’t that be hailed in the free market spectrum were Innovation is promised? What are we innovating from non-renewables? What’s next after the next oil line runs dry? Fossil Fuels are a dying franchise unsustainable to our growing populations and consumer needs. We’re fighting wars over the last drops for god sakes. Using the military and sacrificing human lives to protect a limited product for a global tycoon. No wonder they say Oil is power. When will they learn to throw in the towel and quit fooling themselves.
The science shows, the data reveals and the business is booming that going Green is the wave of future. It’s a benefit for everyone and humanity as a whole. Whatever aspect you look at Climate Change and solutions like the Green New Deal, it’s a matter of survival for life on this planet. The rock that we call home that gave us so much and it’s more then ever time to time the abuse of nature and focus on the future. Go Green Go!
