Rage of the Media: The Presentation on Screen
The years of petty smears, lies and self determination shows how Corporate Media lost the battle against the rise of citizen sleuths.
It seemed so simple back in the day of the baby boom or even Gen X era where you flicked on the evening news program heard the top stories of the day and that was how it was. No questions asked. They heard, they saw, they believed every last point that was presented to them. It may have seem wholesome, familiar and comfortable to a pondering eye but it was and continues to be a tool of manufacturing consent to the masses. While there is an importance of news media and journalism to inform a evolving society, it has been tainted. Conformity to the status-quo of bloodshed wars, corporate corruption, and political falsehoods to further the authority of the ruling class. Corporate control of press media is essential to their power structure and our eyes glued to the screen continue to power them.
Manufacturing consent to use the phrase coined by noted political analyst and philosopher Noam Chomsky, is a dangerous tool of behavior manipulation and cultural acceptance predominantly used to maintain the corporate agenda and status quo of capital regimes. You look at the topics being address on a daily basis, how they are said, the tone being used, the perspective of which their reporting from. In the days of yester year with the six o’clock viewing of news, there was internet. There was no means to share what you watched, research news stories on different platforms, or publish the content. It was a different time and also a different tone.
Newsrooms and agencies didn’t always push sensational division and manipulated content, there was an actual desire for accurate journalism and informing the public. However, it went through a kind of “Wolf of Wall Street” change as I refer it. Once networks, advertisers, and media tycoons saw the potential profiteering from expanded viewership and climbs in ratings. The elites decided to paint the town red.
CORPORATE CONTROL
Dawning into the midst of ultra consumerism, patriotism and the formation of a criminal neoliberal empire. The cons used their abilities to dismantle the journalist structure to form a version of infotainment and mass consolidation of propaganda, which still sadly continues today and it’s getting worse. The world of Walter Cronkites and Edward R. Murrows has been whitewashed away to push the Rachael Maddows and Sean Hannitys out there. Multimillionaires who can read a prompter presented to them with no sense of integrity of accountability by their billionaire bosses to fill the gaps between all the Boeing, Goldman Sachs and Amazon ads. Why would Boeing advertise to the family dwellings watching the news? Amazon is I guess a consumer service, but nobody sitting at the kitchen table wondering how to pay rent or medical bills are giving a crap about purchasing a luxury jet liner. That’s the secret: it’s not an advertisement.
Posing as an ad is just the front for what it really is, an open bribe. Boeing has had a lot of scrutiny over the years being a Military Contractor and Commercial Aircraft service which would put a dent in the company image and public response would be negative. So what if there was a way to push some coin around to silence any potential investigations or reports that put a company like Boeing in a harsh spotlight, conveniently place around an news report about overseas wars which Boeing gets a profit from. I was wrong I guess it is an advertisement. It just advertises silence for profiteering, and manipulates the story completely.
Notice how any coverage of bloody war involving western society doesn’t explain the cause or context of the war but just a ramble on tactics and what machines to use. It’s a dirty practice that goes unnoticed way to often, or that’s what they think.
CITIZEN SLEUTHS
Fast forward through the skewed narratives of war, economics, healthcare, crime, environment, workers and civility over the years by the top news markets out there: NBC News, CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC etc. to today. Since the start of the online web, ordinary citizens have been blessed with extraordinary power of information sharing. Social Media, though it has some shady backgrounds, is a vital tool in the use of news. After all the ideal of journalism in a sense is reporting on what is being witnessed. Smartphones, Tablets, Cameras, Bloggers, and Writers from all different backgrounds and creeds have advanced our understanding of reporting news.
Journalism doesn’t come from money and fancy production sets, it comes from initiative of searching for results, reporting on the things seen and having a honest take away. Independent journalism has risen in past few years and more to come as trust in traditional corporate media continues to fall, which angers the ruling class. How can the manipulate the masses and skew people into their narratives when they rely on the average jack and jane for news. Hence come the censor warriors.
CENSOR THEIR RIVALRY
If any history, science fiction, mafia or superhero movie has taught us anything is that the corrupted don’t like to get messed with and same goes with news media. The corporate goons throw shade and unspeakable tricks to fool the public and belittle the critical thinkers that hold the corrupt accountable. Liars don’t like the spotlight. So how do they deflect the spotlight? It’s a repeatable offense of constant unproven smears, lies and slander to individuals with little to no power presence in the media landscape. Even the most ordinary citizen with any online following would be targeted from mainstream media if critiquing the mainstream dialect. Using a series of fabricated lingo to shame individual thinkers as conspiracy nuts, wackjobs, racist, sexist, anti-america, communist, freedom hater, and various others, these play on to divert and shame away their audience in which case the establishment propaganda press purposely use to push their agenda and boost their own following.
IN THE END
I hope in the years to come and thanks to the advancements of social media and citizen journalism that we’re able to break the barrier of hiding back information to the general public. Discussion leads to bigger ideas and possibilities, which is why censorship is an attack on society. Silencing dissent doesn’t protect us, it betrays us in more ways than you think. Censorship has always been a glooming factor in human history in which critical information is seized for powerful classes of people that want the rest of citizens to be left out of the loop or fall into propagandized narratives. Critical thinkers are necessary for human growth and advancement for civilization, regardless of the shady throwbacks being received. Today’s vast variety of media may have many options for the individual, but let this be known that it’s behind those faces who curve culture. The executives behind the networks, the advertisers, the investors, government entities, lobby firms and even viewers themselves all play key roles in news media narrative. Mark Twain said once to paraphrase “It’s easier to fool someone, that to prove to them they’ve been fooled”. If you’re one of those people that have family members that scorn you because their love loyalty to Anderson Cooper push them to it, don’t feel bad and don’t scorn back. In the end, it may be a long road to getting outside the status quo box, but deep inside we’re all humans thirsty for knowledge. We just have to take the time to think for it.
